Amy Newsome

Amy Newsome is experienced in a variety of business and corporate legal matters, focusing much of her practice on laws governing investment advisers, mutual funds and broker-dealers. With extensive experience in fiduciary matters, Ms. Newsome advises institutional clients and assists individuals with estate planning.

Biography

Amy Newsome has experience in a variety of business and corporate legal matters.  Ms. Newsome focuses much of her practice on the investment management industry and federal and state securities laws governing investment advisers, mutual funds and broker-dealers. She also serves as fund counsel to the Cavanal Hill family of mutual funds.  With extensive experience in fiduciary matters, Ms. Newsome advises other collective investment vehicles and large trusts.   She also assists individuals with estate planning.  Ms. Newsome joined Frederic Dorwart, Lawyers PLLC in 2004. Prior to that time, she was in-house counsel to WilTel Communications and The Williams Companies. She received her J.D., with highest honors, graduating fourth in her class, from the University of Tulsa. Amy was a member of the Order of the Curule Chair; Phi Delta Phi honor society; Tulsa Law Journal, publishing a note and serving as Managing Editor; and received multiple CALI awards for academic excellence. Ms. Newsome received her MBA from Colorado State University in 1994, and her B.S. from Fort Lewis College in 1989.   

Representative Recent Engagements

  • Regularly represent the interests of a large regional financial institution, providing Office of General Counsel services
  • Regularly engaged to provide strategic regulatory and compliance advice related to investment management activities of investment advisers, broker dealers and banks
  • Provided Department of Labor fiduciary rules analysis and compliance advice to clients
  • Counseled clients regarding Regulation Best Interest
  • Assisted clients with estate planning approaches to potential tax laws changes
  • Assisted non-profits with obtaining tax-exempt status
